At Happy Tails, The Balanced Pack Club is our signature daycare experience and our primary daytime program. Designed as a membership-based program with a weekly commitment, "The Club" goes far beyond simply keeping dogs busy. It is intentionally structured to fulfill a dog’s natural instincts through leadership, routine, enrichment, and healthy socialization, all balanced with rest and recovery.

Led by our experienced team and guided by dog behavior principles, the Balanced Pack Club creates an environment where dogs feel safe, understood, and supported as individuals while learning to thrive as part of a group.

What a Day in "The Club" Looks Like:

Morning:Structure & Foundation

The first portion of each day is dedicated to calm, classroom-style structure. This is where the foundation for a balanced day is built. During the morning, dogs participate in:

Place work
Pack walks
Threshold manners, such as pausing at doors and gates
Respecting personal space
Practicing calm behavior in stimulating environments
Purposeful enrichment, including treadmill and/or slat mill sessions to burn excess energy and build confidence, along with guided agility work to improve body awareness and trust

Goal:To develop impulse control, confidence, and emotional balance. These foundational skills help dogs succeed not only in the group environment, but also at home.

Midday: Rest & Reset

Midday is a dedicated rest period that includes crate training and nap time. This portion of the day is intentionally quiet and predictable, giving dogs the opportunity to decompress and process the work they’ve done earlier. Learning to rest calmly around other dogs is an essential life skill and a key component of emotional regulation.

Goal: To allow dogs to mentally and physically reset, prevent overstimulation, and promote calm, neutral behavior throughout the group.

Afternoon: Guided Free Play (Follow • Play • Explore)

The second half of the day includes guided free play, always closely supervised by our trained team. This portion of the day represents the reward after dogs have spent the morning following structure and expectations. Dogs are given the opportunity to play and explore in a healthy, balanced way while staff actively manages interactions and advocates for dogs who need space or additional support.

Goal:To reinforce calm behavior, build healthy social skills, and allow dogs to enjoy play and exploration after their needs for structure and guidance have been fulfilled.

Why We Created The Balanced Pack Club

Traditional all-day daycare environments can often lead to overstimulation, heightened arousal, reactivity, and unhealthy social habits. While many dogs may be friendly and social, that does not mean they all need or benefit from the same type of care.

Membership Requirements

To maintain consistency and a well-balanced pack environment, dogs enrolled in The Balanced Pack Club are required to:

Attend at least one day per week
Be dropped off no later than 8:30 a.m.

Regular attendance allows dogs to fully understand the routine, expectations, and flow of the day, which is essential for emotional balance and group harmony.

Support for Your Schedule

We understand that committing to weekly attendance can be a significant time commitment. To help make this transition easier, we offer pickup and drop-off services for an additional fee. Please contact our front desk if you would like more information or assistance scheduling this service.

Nature Trails and Dog Park Adventures

As part of pack walks and enrichment, we love incorporating our 40-acre nature trails and our dog park near the pond whenever weather permits. These outings provide valuable mental stimulation, exposure to new scents, and opportunities to explore in a structured way.

Because these activities take place outside of our fenced yards, all dogs remain on leash and under the direct supervision of our trainers and daycare leaders at all times. Participation requires a signed Nature Trail and Pond Waiver.

As part of “The Club”, our promise to you is that we will always advocate for your dog as an individual. Our team is trained in dog behavior and understands how to read stress signals, manage group dynamics, and adjust each dog’s experience as needed. This approach allows us to protect shyer or more sensitive dogs, guide more energetic dogs appropriately, and ensure that every dog in the Club feels safe, respected, and supported.

By creating a predictable routine that includes structure, rest, and guided social time, dogs know what to expect each day. This consistency promotes emotional balance, healthy social skills, and long-term success both in the Club and at home.
